The 3 R's

Miles Yesterday: 4.94
Total Feb Miles: 9.47
Temp Yesterday: 66*

Milage is just so sad this month, but my foot is about 95% which is a very good thing. Talking with Matt I have a plan to add 3 miles every other day and rest completely inbetween until I'm back to (or close to) where I need/want to be for my training. The marathon is looming- I have a new pair of shoes, I was lucky to find the exact same ones I use now at clearance. They are already 'last years model' and are discontinued. I'm going to start breaking those in on these low milage walks this week, they will be the shoes I'll wear on Marathon day.

It's been busy around our house, we are thinning all of our stuff out still. Craigslisting like crazy, had a pretty good run last week of selling one thing each day. Yesterday I made my very first PURCHASE on craigslist, I got a cheap used couch. I'm really happy with my purchase as I'm sitting on it now blogging away.

Thanks to Jill's blog I found The Story of Stuff and can't stop thinking about it. I'm already a recycling nerd- I dream of having my own recycling service one day (but that's a whole other post) and it's like my hobby because I recycle for the whole office. Matt pointed out last night what a great public service craigslist is just for keeping stuff out of the landfills! Before I was addicted to craigslist and had heard about it, but wasn't using it- I moved to this current house. I left and threw away so much GOOD STUFF! Matt had a similar story of several moves ago where he says he could of filled our living room with stuff that we could of sold on the list. I love the idea of REUSE- I'm constantly finding ways to reuse everything I can, Matt does too- we have pickle jars everywhere with his stuff! The guys at work think I'm crazy because I save everything.

It literally sickens me to drive around my neighborhood some days, on any given day there is piles of STUFF that people are just throwing away into the landfills. I read that the average american produces 4.5 POUNDS of garbage EVERYDAY per PERSON!!!! That's crazy! It takes such a small effort to reduce that amount. Recycling and reusing and just the smallest thought when you use something of how it will be disposed helps to reduce the amount of stuff you throw away.

Every little bit makes a difference I believe. I'd love to hear some comments about what you all think about the story of stuff after you watch it. It really made me feel good about second hand purchases and made me proud that I'm saving a perfectly good item from the landfill. Kind of like saving a pet's life from the animal shelter!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

I've always been a thrift shop nut where it comes to clothes, except for the types of items that just don't show up. There's also FreeCycle, which is great for an elderly woman who doesn't drive -- people show up and pick up STUFF you no longer want.
