I love fall. Although the crispy-ness in the air is just a hint here in the south, I swear I can feel it coming in my bones. It's like my insides are aware of the impending winter in Alaska and my mind and logic struggle to accept that it is still 80* here no matter how much I want it to be 50*. I wake up every morning hoping that it will be cool enough to put on a sweater. Then as I look through the worlds tiniest closet, which is where I keep ALL my clothes (a wonder of the world) I realize, I don't have any sweaters anymore. I purged them last fall in one of my feng shui cleaning frenzies.
The slightest of fall colors is just emerging on a Chinese elm along my street, to the right of this picture. I notice the smallest changes in the plants and the trees. Canadian Geese are showing up in flocks this week. My co-workers don't even notice them, I always loved how they were the signal in Alaska that the season is changing. I never thought about their long journey until I lived here in the south, now I dream about where they are coming from. Did they summer over at Conner's Lake or along Minnesota Blvd in Anchorage? Did they fly over any of my loved ones as they left to come here? It's like that saying about us seeing the same moon, are we also seeing the same geese?
No sweaters, but at least I have pumpkins!

The good part about being in the south this time of year for me, is Halloween. I LOVE that the weather is nice on October 31st. Last year I went crazy decorating with moving ghosts, huge rope spider webs, over a dozen jack o'lanters. As I got out my stored goods for the season and realized I had 7 boxes of Halloween decorations - I had to admit that I was out of control! This year I am scaling it down to just 'fall' decorating, not specifically Halloween. I've also decided to limit myself to only purchasing 4 additional pumpkins this year.
