Chasing the Sunset

The boys - just down the street from our house at about 5:30pm...
Walking Mileage: 6.82
December Miles Walked: 16.89
Temperature upon departure: 44*

We started out early last night, since I didn't have any stops on the way home. I got home early and we left as soon as I got there. Which was a good opportunity to get some sunset pictures finally. The clouds really form some beautiful sunsets here.
Freedom Park at about 5:45pm

And the boys...
Petey was up and down last night. He started out excited and strong, then I think he hit the doggie 'wall' and bonked on me about 3 miles into our walk. He was dragging behind with his head down. I actually stopped and checked out his feet a couple times to make sure he wasn't hurting or anything. He is a picky walker- he really only likes routes that he knows, if I vary even one street he's not into it. Blue on the other hand was perky and alert last night. His tail was high the whole time, which I think meant he felt good. Matt and I talk a lot about doing the Appalachian Trail with the boys. My biggest worry has always been how can I tell if they are up to it or not, how would they tell me. But walking as much as we (the boys and I) have in the last three months I know their body language so well. I can finally tell when they are feeling good and when they are 'bonking'. Instead of just watching myself and my reactions to adding miles, I have to watch them too. Which I don't mind since they are the best walking partners I could ask for!
