I'm 31 Years Old...That Ain't the End...
January Miles Walked: 72
Temperature upon departure: 33*
Humidity: 77%
But it sure ain't where I began! From Alaska to Atlanta, it has been quite the journey and adventure-one that I never expected or planned to have either! Today was my birthday so my company gives everyone their day off. As soon as I heard this I planned to walk 16 miles on the 16th. We came pretty close, just shy a half mile, but that may be a little of my poor mapping skills too! Anyways we headed out at 9:30 this morning in spite of all the crazy weather reports that a terrible wet front was coming through this afternoon. Taking the chance that 'afternoon' meant after 4 or 5 o'clock I bundled up then the boys and I headed out with Matt waving at us from the front door. My pack had extra gloves, hat, snacks, lots of water (too much) and the good ol' cell phone just in case we got caught in the forecasted afternoon freezing rain.
After taking yesterday off, my legs took a couple miles to warm up and find my stride. The boys seemed strong despite the chilly weather. After just a couple miles I had to stop and put more ear coverage on in the slight winds. This was our first long walk on a weekday- our usually crowded routes were barren and empty other than the few bundled up people sitting at the bus stops.
We went around Piedmont Park and through Mid-town, and then back to the Park to rest and have our lunch. There was a lot of construction going on as there always is in Atlanta, this Brasfield and Gorrie site had 5 skycranes all going at the same time- SUPER cool! The foundation hole that they are building is unbelievably huge.
We hung out at the dog park, the boys ran around and met some new friends. These pictures they are on 'squirrel watch'
I'm pretty tired now, thus the lame writing..I'll write more tomorrow. My feet are feeling really tired and I can't seem to get warm which seems to always happen after a long walk. I'm proud that we did what we set out to do, for the most part. It was pretty dang cool that it snowed on my birthday though. I was admiring all the pansy's as we were walking- the colors so bright and the plants look so strong.
Then just about 45 minutes after we got home it started snowing!! First it was just little flakes that melted the second they hit anything- but after an hour it was big fat flakes and a little covering of accumulation. Maybe they'll close the highways down and I'll have tomorrow off too!
