It's been raining all week long. Last night I got home just in time for the sky to clear and slip out with the boys for a nice long over-due walk. It had been since Sunday that we walked, we had a really good weekend. In fact Saturday was our best walk EVER, we did 7 miles and they walked right by my side. The training started out great, they both were so willing to please. Then Sunday I realized I needed to start walking them separately, as they have never been on a walk without each other. Blue was amazing, he was focused and alert, I was really impressed. Petey was practically bored, but I found a low hanging chain fence and taught him, 'over' - he loved jumping! He was so proud of himself barking and carrying on. They were very content on Sunday evening. Then Monday it started raining and really didn't stop until last night.
Last night it was as though they had never been a walk before! They were pulling and not listening or paying attention. Petey seemed annoyed with me, Blue wasn't paying any attention to anything except squirrels. It was like square 1 again! I really thought they were ready for the Canine Good Citizen test, but now I'm not so sure. I read somewhere that when they perform 8 out of 10 times they are ready. I've asked Matt to build us some jumps to practice in the backyard. I want to start using those to show Petey that this is FUN!
The weather is turning, I am loving the coolness in the air, I am deeming it 'sweatshirt' weather from here on out! Let's hope!
