Coolness

There is something about riding a bike where it makes you feel amazing moving along under your own body's power, having ridiculous fun and yet you could care less about what you look like. Have you ever noticed how people in cars are always fixing their hair or fancy sunglasses, catching peeks of themselves in the rear view mirror? People that ride bikes don't care, when we catch glimpses of ourselves in say a window along the street if we aren't looking at our machines under us, we're checking our form or maybe our gut to see how much more stealth we're looking these days with all these miles 'under our belt'. When you ride a bike the meaning of 'cool' changes a bit, people that drive don't really get it. Everyone has their own riding uniforms, for some it's spandex and Lycra covered in logos, for some it's knickers and wool jerseys, some it's shorts and tee shirts, whatever makes you most comfortable.

Back to my point, its a funny moment when you morph into a bike rider, you feel SO amazing when you first get off your bike after a fun ride. The last thing you care about it what your wearing, how your hair looks or how much your sweating-your too busy feeling FABULOUS! Your smile is plastered on, the endorphins are pumping through you, you are the world to yourself at that moment, you feel giddy and childlike, but Strong and so in control. No one else pedaled that bike, it was YOU, and damn it you feel GREAT! Your feeling friendly, you want to talk to everyone, conversation comes easy as you can't stop smiling-its a very true moment. A moment where you are your truest self, no masks, no peer pressure to be like someone else you are your most fabulous self.

The cuz Lizzie had this moment last night, it was really fun to watch. I've been helping guide her to finding the perfect bike (a favorite past time of mine) and I think we're close. She rode the bike yesterday. After test riding about 20 or so bike together now, I can now see the looks on her face and know what she's about to say after dismounting each test ride. Determined to spend as little as possible, the want and must have list has been steadily growing as she rode more and more bikes and figuring out what she wants vs needs. There was some serious disappointment all over her face as we rode about 10 yesterday. Then we went to my LBS for a few parts I needed. After two more test ride disappointments, Mike (the owner) and I were on the same wave length that it was time to ruin her by introducing THE one.

She TOOK off out the door on that bike, it was like sweet magic as soon as she got on that machine. I had to yell 'WAIT UP! For real- WAIT FOR ME!' When I caught up the smile on her face was priceless. Pure joy. Pure, pure joy. After the 20 minute test ride she was giddy and couldn't stop dancing (with no music mind you) all afternoon and into the night. The smile stayed glued on until we said good night.

It's a revolution, its freedom. Especially being a girl and feeling so amazing and being so far from mainstream. Soon she'll be looking at pictures like this and saying DAMN he's hot!! That's the kind of guy I want to marry!
