Changing in the dark

Comfortable in the dark has been my goal in the last week. I really cut back on my walks after daylight savings because of the sunsetting at 5:30- but I ain't afraid of the dark! So with my new mace and short walks in the early morning without a soul out, I'm finally more comfortable. Very aware of my surroundings but comfortable. It's difficult to get good pictures in the dark however, so here is what I got last night. I set out as the sun was going down and did a little longer different loop than we normally do. It's time for me to make some changes, thus the different loop. For the first time in what feels like forever I feel a change in my body. The half marathon pushed me out of my comfort zone, where I've been for a few years now and didn't realize how complacent I'd become. Walking faster is easier now, slight elevation changes are not felt like they were earlier this year. It's already easier to get up in the mornings and get out even if only for a few minutes. I've also been stretching and doing some basic yoga everyday, which I've noticed my calves and shins don't ache like they did just a couple months ago. Perhaps with my yogi like focus the curse of the shin splints has vanished?
Matt says that he likes running in the dark because he feels incognito, I like the light because I'm still so fascinated by the sights of the city and my neighborhood. The perk of the dark- it has shed some light on my inner struggles, thoughts, dreams, and needs. The obvious is my needing to make some real, achievable goals physically and to remember that change only happens one small step at a time.
