3 in 24...it can only get better now!
It's been a rough week to say the least.
My sucker fish, The Queen died this morning.
I found a cockroach in the house.
I ended up with another freakin flat on Wed morning, this time the back wheel had a big ol' wood screw. This time however I had all the fixin's..but it still sucked. Goosey just doesn't feel as good now even thou it was just a few flats, but I'm gun shy now. I've also been really tired, my legs have just been wiped out after three weeks straight of being on the bike after not riding consistently for more than a year. I took Memorial Weekend off the bike, but walked and hiked, then add in the lunchtime yoga classes the last few weeks and the quads have hit the wall.
After the 3 flats in 24 hours, I was seriously thinking maybe I should just drive a couple days, but I DREAD the thought of driving again. Alternative? yes, MARTA. So yesterday and today I rode my bike to the nearest MARTA station and got on board. It's a little awkward for me still, I think I've got it down thou.
Another contributing cause to my BONK might be my nutrition. It hasn't been great without Matt around for me to cook healthy for. Even if I order the Pizza Hut pizza with no cheese I don't think is very rich in nutrients. I've been pretty good at work- I avoid the donuts (mostly) and I make healthy choices. Made a big skillet of rice/chicken/vegetables the other day for my lunches for this week.
My co-worker that I work closest with I showed her my 'drawer' the other day, just in case she is ever looking for something in my office. I didn't want to scare her if she opened The Drawer. It's become quite a stash- it's a bottom lateral file drawer that has:
-work shoes
-spare blazer
-extra socks
-cereal
-granola bars
-sunflower seeds
-candy (for my candy jar, it gets people enjoyment to come talk work things with me)
-my FEED bag (a reusable grocery bag that has my raisins, mixed dried fruit, coconut, instant oatmeal, lunch stuff for the day, etc. - this way I can carry it back and forth from my office to the kitchen without looking like I have an insane amount of food everyday)
-hair spray, spare brush
-spare contacts/juice just in case
-Sunscreen
-yoga clothes
and to top it off I drape my sweaty shirt in the morning across the file guides to dry!
It's my system, and it works for me is all I can say. I feel prepared and like I have what I need at the office, less stuff to carry in the backpack is always good. Especially now that it is 96*
The commuting is paying off. I haven't lost more pounds, but my legs are hard and strong. My abs feel stronger too. My arms are really showing some muscles especially when I *fling* (ok it's a LIFT with baited breath) ...my bike onto my shoulder up the MARTA stairs instead of using the elevator! That's only with goosey mind you! Rocky weighs 40# withOUT my stuff.
Tomorrow I'm riding over to East Atlanta, about 10 miles (each way) to do a volunteer thing. Then Sunday I'm planning to take the whole day off the bike. In conjunction with my MARTA multi-modal commuting for a couple days, hopefully my legs will be fresh on Monday and I can just ride all week. I've been mapping out some new routes to avoid Peidmont & Peachtree more. I've found the more I ride instead of drive, the more ...hmmm what is a good word?? The more pissed off I get at drivers. There I said it.
Today already feels better! Have a great weekend!
