Up and Down
What a month. I've had the high of the tour, low of being sick and lots in between. Monday morning I had a flat on the ride into work. I left early too and was really enjoying the moon still hanging in the sky which to me welcomes the fall season around the corner. It was a slow flat, no obvious colprits. I changed it in a record 7 minutes. I insert the CO2 cartridge to inflate the brand new tube, and hissssssssssssssssss. The super cold air went straight through the tube. I took it off and looked for a hole, but couldn't find anything in my morning frustration. I had one CO2 left, so I found the hole in the original tube and patched it. Put it back on, 25 minutes have ticked by at this point. I double checked everything and said a little (ok BIG) prayer to the bike god and inserted my last and only CO2 cartridge. I wasn't very confident on my side of the road patch job and wasn't sure if it was the only hole. my fingers froze to the cartridge as it emptied...yes, yes it was holding! Hissssssssssssssssssssss! Man. I never just get one flat, it's always multiple flats. I'm not sure why. Luckily it's always by MARTA, so I jumped on with my flat and got to work. After work I walked to the LBS by work, about a 20 minute walk in the hot, HOT sun. Totally bummed, Free Flite in Buckhead is closing this Saturday. Forever. It was great having them right down the street for quick stops on the way home. And I totally like the guys there. I believe them to be the nicest and friendlist shop in town. Damon there totally rocks and put up so well with me when I was obnoxiously bike shopping. I still drool on myself when I think about the Kaitai. *sigh*
Today I rode over to Georgia Tech to watch the amazing Alp d'Hues Stage 17 show-down. They have a nice big flat screen tv with lounge chairs and stereo sound and I don't have to tip anyone or drink any thing. I flew down Peachtree today in traffic feeling fresh legs and enjoying that the 92* felt cool compared to the 97* of yesterday. I had a max of 32 mph and kept a super fast 25 in most traffic other than the couple hills. Rock on. The stage was amazing again, but why the hell did Michael Douglas present the yellow jersey??? Anyways...
only a few more weeks til Matt gets home. I so totally miss him. We met right at the start of the tour in 2006. On our third date he went to my favorite pub Meehans with Gary and I to watch. He was so cute trying to talk football with me. I finally turned to him and said, 'I only watch the tour. I hate other sports.' I remember him laughing. After that he got pretty into the Landis winning and then through the last two years the Landis trials. All because he loves me. I can't wait for him to come home. AND I can't wait to watch a tour with him again. Maybe next year!
